PANAJI: Stating that the Jansampark Abhiyan of the Bharatiya
Janata Party, which travelled around Goa during last 15 days has greatly
succeeded in establishing direct dialogue between the party and the
people,
the senior BJP leader, Mr M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said the second
phase of the BJP government in the state would complete the
revolutionary transformation of Goa towards its progress and
development, which had begun during the first phase under the leadership
of the then chief minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar.
"Corruption and price rise would be the two major issues on which BJP
will contest assembly election in the state," he added.
Addressing a large gathering at a public meeting in Mapusa commemorating
the culmination of the Jansampark Abhiyan, Mr Naidu said the Congress
has no moral right to approach people and seek votes, as it has messed
up the process of progress and development of the state, during past
five years.
"I don't understand how the Congress leaders dare to show their faces to
the public, and ask another term for party's government," he observed,
urging the people to compare the governments led by Mr Parrikar and Mr
Digambar Kamat, and then cast their vote.
Mr Naidu said that it is the true responsibility of a political leader
as well as political party to establish contact with the people, "and I
feel that through the Janasampark Abhiyan, Mr Parrikar as well as the
state unit of the party have both ably shouldered this responsibility."
"The people of Goa are educated, knowledgeable, and reasonable, and are
also fully aware about the misdeeds of this government as exposed
through the reports of the public accounts committee of the state
assembly as well as that of the Comptroller and Auditor General of
India," he noted.
"The central as well as the Goa governments are both moving one step
forward, three steps backward, with the situation becoming awkward," the
senior BJP leader quipped, maintaining that a government with
character, honesty and integrity can only be given by the BJP.
"I am proud that nobody was able to raise a finger against the
government of Mr Parrikar," he stated.
Finally, Mr Naidu said that many years ago, Goa was liberated from the
Portuguese colonial rule, and now, Goans have another opportunity to
politically liberate the state from the corrupt and 'scam-infested'
Congress administration, making way for a clean BJP government.
The opposition leader and senior state BJP leader, Mr Manohar Parrikar,
who arrived at the venue of the public meeting on the Jansampark
Abhiyan chariot amidst fireworks, said the 15-day journey largely helped
him to develop patience.
"I also understood that one can learn a great deal from people," he
added.
Stating that if the BJP comes to power in the state, the party will
implement a policy, which would protect the people from the heat of
inflation, Mr Parrikar said the BJP government would also do away with
the overhead electricity cables, and replace them with underground ones.
He further said the BJP government would entrust the state Lokayukta
with his first case, that of the special economic zone land allotment
scam.
Recalling his 15-day Abhiyan, Mr Parrikar informed that during his
1,400-km travel, he received 750 welcomes, attended 400 welcome meets,
participated in 60 public meetings, shook hands with 30,000 people, and
more importantly, received love and blessings from the public.
"I met farmers, milkman, taxi drivers, motorcycle pilots, gadda owners,
shopkeepers, fishermen, vegetable vendors, flower sellers, and so many
other people," he mentioned, maintaining that the BJP will fulfil all
its assurances given to people if its government comes to power.
Mr Parrikar also felicitated the driver of his chariot, Mr Savio Trina,
and other members of his Abhiyan team - M/s Vinay and Vinayak by
presenting them with shawls.
The BJP state president, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar, speaking on the occasion
said the Abhiyan was very important to the party as it connected the
minorities to BJP, which is a very auspicious thing for the state. The
BJP spokesperson, Mr Vishnu Wagh said that no astrologer is needed to
predict that BJP will have its 23 MLAs in the newly constituted state
assembly.
Mr Matanhy Saldanha, a new entrant to the party said the Congress is
misleading the people of Goa with its nonsensical theories as regards
BJP being a communal party, and itself a secular one.
The Goa desk in-charge of the BJP, Ms Arati Mehra was present on the
occasion. A number of BJP MLAs, including Mr Francis D'Souza, Mr Mahadev
Naik, Mr Dilip Parulekar and Mr Dayanand Mandrekar also spoke on the
occasion.
