Italy: New parliament fails to elect speakers after two rounds of voting

In its first session on Friday, Italy's parliament failed to elect speakers to its lowest and upper houses after two rounds of voting as the deadlock since February's split election results continued. The task of the 630 lawmakers in the lower house and 315 upper house senators was to elect the speakers - two of the highest offices of state - who play a central role in managing the parliamentary agenda.
