The Chevrolet Cruze posted its best sales month in April and record
sales were reported for the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain compact
crossovers. The substantial gains by General Motors fuel-efficient
passenger cars and crossovers led the company to reported sales of
232,538 in the United States for April 2011.  As gas prices creep closer
to the $5 mark per gallon, consumers have begun to trade in their
larger vehicles for the smaller, more fuel efficient models. Sales to
individual customers increased 25% over April 2010 with cars up 49% and
crossovers up 28%. The Chevrolet Cruze replaced the Cobalt and showed
retail sales 180% higher than the Cobalt. Sales records were also posted
for the Equinox and Terrain with increases of 53% and 61% respectively.
