PANAJI: Calling it a natural alliance, the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) president, Mr Nitin Gadkari on Sunday officially announced
the pre-poll tie-up between BJP and MGP for the March 3 Assembly
elections, in the presence of top local leaders from both the parties.
The announcement was made after an early morning meeting held at a city
hotel where the deal was finally sealed. Those present included the
leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar, and former transport
minister and Priol MLA, Mr Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar.
According to the terms, the BJP would contest 31 seats, the MGP 8 and
the alliance would support an independent candidate, Ms Nirmala Sawant
in Cumbarjua.
"A decision was taken to have a pre-poll alliance to fight the
elections. It is a 100 per cent natural alliance for the interest and
development of Goa. And 101 per cent, we will form the next government

PANAJI: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), on Sunday,
withdrew support to the Congress-led coalition government, party
president, Mr Pandurang Dhavalikar said.
Mr Dhavalikar told media that his party has sent the decision of the
central committee asking its minister holding the portfolios of
transport, social welfare and river navigation to resign from the
cabinet, to the ruling alliance, Governor, Mr K Sankarnarayanan, the
Speaker, Mr Pratapsing Rane and the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat,
in a letter dated February 3, and also announced that as of today the
party was withdrawing support to the Congress.
"Today morning removed the understanding with the Congress and in the
upcoming elections we will be going for elections with the BJP. We have
conveyed to the governor, Speaker and the Chief Minister that we are not
with the government," he told media.

PANAJI: Stating that the Jansampark Abhiyan of the Bharatiya
Janata Party, which travelled around Goa during last 15 days has greatly
succeeded in establishing direct dialogue between the party and the
people,
the senior BJP leader, Mr M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said the second
phase of the BJP government in the state would complete the
revolutionary transformation of Goa towards its progress and
development, which had begun during the first phase under the leadership
of the then chief minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar.
