Windows only: Sudo for Windows is an alternative for those with programs they often have to "Run as Administrator" in Windows XP or Vista, but offers a more convenient and accessible way of getting there. Rather than having to know an administrative password, "SudoWin" lets you use your own Windows password to elevate your privileges, and doesn't tie your account to the administrator's data folders when you log in. A handy tool to have around when you need it, and it runs from a right-click context item. Sudo for Windows is a free download for Windows systems only. Thanks, Joe!

Windows Mobile/Pocket PC only: Get access to all of your Windows Mobile or Pocket PC device's files with Mocha FTP Server, a (newly) free utility. Simply load and run the software on your mobile device, point a browser or FTP client on a networked computer to the address it provides, and you can do what you want with pictures, music, and other files. You can get pretty fancy if you want, setting up multiple users with different rights, time-outs, and more. Mocha FTP Server is a free download for Windows Mobile and Pocket PC devices; once you hit the registration screen, enter "freeware" for a license name and "111425" for a code.

Windows only: Freeware application Direct Folders jumps quickly to any folder on your filesystem (and then some) for quick navigation through regular Explorer windows or save dialogs. After installing Direct Folders, double-click any free space on an Explorer window to bring up the Direct Folder menu. From there you can choose one of your favorite folders (or even apps), add new favorites, or access recent folders. With a lot more time-saving functionality worth using (like automatic folder resizing), Direct Folders seems almost magical. For a full run-down of everything it can do, check out the demo screencast. Direct Folders is freeware, Windows only (a pro version is available for a price, but most of the marquee features are available to the freeware versio read more »
