corduroypurse.png Tutorial site wikiHow runs down instructions for turning a pair of cords into a nifty shoulder bag. This project reminds me of a DIY jeans bag I saw live and in person at SXSW this weekend. The jeans bag—which involves no sewing at all—holds together with only duct tape and love. Neat!

documentholderlaptopstand.png Purchasing a fancy laptop stand that elevates your notebook for easier typing and better airflow can be expensive, so DIYer Chris99 built one himself using a metallic document holder, some shelf liner, and a block of rubber. Using a hot glue gun and utility blade, he padded the metal surface and positioned the blocks to hold his MacBook in place. We've featured a whole lot of DIY laptop stands here over the years, but this looks like one of the better put together of the bunch.

In essence, you're just using the magnet to find nails in the wall, which would indicate there's a stud there. The narrator seems a little confused about the purpose of the stud finder (he appears to suggest you don't want to drive nails into the stud), but the method would still work, and you can even go simpler if you don't feel like using string. Granted, stud finders themselves aren't that expensive, so this is more of a quick solution if you don't feel like heading to the store, but read more »

diy-gorillapod.pngA savvy photographer at DIY web site Instructables details how he built his own anywhere tripod mimicking previously mentioned Gorillapod on-the-cheap. Using a few bucks worth of materials ranging from segmented hose to a couple nuts and bolts, the DIY Gorillapod is well within the reach of the beginning DIYer. It's still unclear whether or not the DIY version can handle the true gorilla functionality of the original, like wrapping around objects, but it's a promising start.
