The world wide web may get a new domain name, especially .qc, anytime soon as the Quebec officials started a petition in order to convince the responsible organizations that the country deserves its own domain. Until now, Quebec's websites were available under a qc.ca extension but the officials intend to remove the .ca suffix in the near future. On the 26th of June 2008, the board of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) at the annual meeting in Paris, agreed to introduce new domain names starting with the second quarter of 2009.
