Everybody loves looking back at pictures from a party, but unless you're lucky enough to have one of those friends who brings a camera to every party and does the work for you, documenting the event can be a pain in the ass. Most of us would rather be, you know, partying. Today I'll show you a few ways you can effortlessly—but extensively—document your next party, using everything from freeware software to some cheap hardware for your camera. When you're done, you'll be able to automate your party photos or make taking pictures fun, giving everyone incentive to contribute to the documentation process. googleearth-thumb.png Sure we've all downloaded a free copy of Google Earth, the big G's eye-popping desktop map application, and flown around the planet with a heightened sense of awe at how cool the whole thing is. But have you done anything else with Google Earth since then? Traveler Anick Jesdanun used Google Earth to create a robust photo tour of a trip through Antarctica and South America, and found the software powerful but complicated and difficult to intuit—especially for friends with whom he shared the resulting KML file. 2008-06-22_104017.jpg If you've accumulated a mess of digital photos and you know that many less than album-worthy ones are cluttering up your hard drive, Picasa can help prune your collection. Photography blogger Dave shares the following trick for quickly trimming down your collection to only the good stuff. Instead of focusing on the pictures which need to be deleted, focus on the ones you really like. Using the star function in Picasa, star each "keeper" in your collection. Once you've starred all the keepers select all of them via Edit - Select Starred and then select the inverse of the starred photos via Edit - Invert Selection. You now have selected all the photos that aren't album worthy and can delete them to make room for future photos. Here's more on read more »
