You can get decent photos out of a standard, consumer-grade digital camera, but a little post-processing can turn them into fantastic wide-angle landscapes. You don't need to be one of those people who can explain the concept of lateral chromatic aberration to get truly eye-catching digital pictures. With a few shutter clicks and some free, cross-platform software, you can easily mesh standard digi-cam shots into true landscapes, fix one photo's deficiencies with another, and create layered photo collages. Let's take a look at how to use the free, open source application Hugin to make two basic kinds of panoramas.

tomatothumb.png Document your green thumb's handiwork this growing season by taking photos of the flowers and vegetables in your garden. Photographer and gardener Joel Heffner has some tips for getting the best snaps of your garden, like filling the frame and getting an interesting angle.
Most people take garden pictures by aiming the camera downward, because it's easier than bending down or crawling in the dirt. The problem is our eye level may not be the best angle from which to take a photo. Try to move around and look for interesting angles—front, back, side, top and bottom views. Also, Heffner says that cloudy days are better than sunny ones for getting good pics without harsh shadows. How's your garden doing? Post your photos in the comments.

Windows Live FrameIt combines multiple RSS feeds, along with the pictures from any web site, into a single, frame-friendly feed. As the Digital Inspiration blog points out, however, the resulting output also lets you check to see when images on a certain page—like the Google homepage, or a big "Sale" button on a discount dealer—have changed. In general, FrameIt is a pretty nice aggregator of both RSS-capable and standard web pages. The service is free to use, but requires a Windows Live sign-up.
