Windows only: Freeware applications from web site E-sushi put common Windows actions—like opening and closing your CD or DVD drive—in your system tray. Apart from the eject system tray shortcut (through a tool called Disc Tray Toggler), E-sushi's iPower lets you logoff, reboot, or shutdown from the system tray, and MiniBin puts your Recycle Bin in your system tray. The downside, of course, is that you have to run an extra application to get each individual feature, so you'll probably want to determine just how much each feature is worth to you depending on how much RAM you've got to spare. Windows only: Free application PC Wizard is a portable tool that analyzes and benchmarks your PC. At its most basic, PC Wizard gives you an in-depth look at your hardware and system specs. The benchmarks measure everything from your processor and RAM to hard drive performance and even MP3 compression speeds. As a cherry on top, PC Wizard is available in a portable version you can carry on your thumb drive. PC Wizard is freeware, Windows only. PC Wizard [via Download Squad] < read more »

With Halite running and actively downloading on my system, I never saw the memory usage crest 10MB of RAM—which, as BitTorrent weblog TorrentFreak points out, is about half the memory consumption of the popular-for-its-small-footprint uTorrent. Granted, Halite doesn't have near the advanced features of uTorrent, but it does support most basic features, like encryption and selective file downloading. If all you want is a no-nonsense BitTorrent client that can grab your downloads with the best of them, Halite may be just what you need. Halite is free, Windows only. Halite [via read more »
