So hit the jump to see how your fellow Lifehackers are making the most of their company-issued cube-shaped corner of the world.Cabin Fever
Reader Angie Jantz says: "Everyone needs a place to do their business. Not that kind of business, sicko, the work kind. Being a graphic designer and a random person in general, I like to be in an environment that inspires me creatively, usually that means something a bit off the beaten path. passcheck_cropped.jpgMicrosoft offers a helpful little box to type your security phrases into that instantly grades them as "Weak," "Medium," and "Strong." Before the inevitable eye rolls and comments on the concepts of "Microsoft" and "security," see the Windows-maker's helpful suggestion on building a tough password:A strong password should appear to be a random string of characters to an attacker. It should be 14 characters or longer, (eight characters or longer at a minimum). Newcomers to computer security who aren't running a firewall should check out Yahoo's Tech Security Guide on the matter. The key point is that anti-virus alone is not enough to protect your computer:
A firewall plugs the security holes ... and blocks that bad, random traffic from coming through to your computer. Anti-virus won't help you in many of these cases. You really need a firewall to stop a lot of this stuff. Most home Wi-Fi routers have a firewall built-in, and at the office the IT department most likely has you covered. But when your PC is out and about on open networks, are you content to rely on Windows' built-in firewall, or do you use a third-party app? Educate us in the comments. (And Mac users, here's how to read more »

emailcomments.png If filling out a web page form is just too much, now you can comment on Lifehacker posts via email. When you're not logged in, an @ button appears next to each comment, as well as a "Comment on this post via email" link. Click it to dash off a message with your thoughts on the post. Like all first comments submitted to Lifehacker, your message is subject to approval before it shows up in the thread. If it is, you'll get a randomly assigned user name for each comment-by-email after that. Of course, we won't publish your address on site. Non-logged in readers, give it a try, and let us know what you think.

Discovered a fun little feature in Yahoo Mail this week that made me wish for the same in Gmail: the Subject-O-Matique, a random subject line inserter. When you just can't think of the right subject for your message, click the subject button in the new version of Yahoo Mail to automatically fill in something cheeky or goofy. Hit the play button above to see some examples. The closest Gmail's got to this is its random signature experimental feature. [ read more »
