Google has seen its web search market share fall some nought point three percentage points globally from January to February, according to comScore, a leader in measuring the digital world but, as an all-time crowd favorite would say, itÂ’s all good. Yesterday, Dr. Arthur Hickman, a government geologist, announced the discovery of a rare meteorite crater somewhere near Australia, in Pilbara. According to various sources, the scientist managed to discover the crater using Google Earth, the software application provided by Google that allows you to view satellite maps straight from your desktop. spotlightqueries-thumb.png When you just can't seem to hunt down that file you know you've got stowed away somewhere on your Mac, it's time to break out the Spotlight big guns—advanced search operators, that is. Macworld runs down advanced Spotlight operators which will be familiar to power Google searchers. Here's a sampling:
Enclose phrases in quotes, like "time machine"
Use AND, OR, and NOT to narrow or widen your search, like java NOT coffee or invoice OR bonus
Search by document attributes using operators like author:authorname, kind:pdf (for PDF files), and date:today What's your favorite Spotlight operator? Give it up in the comments.

thebox_scaled.jpgIt's easy to know where to put cups, socks, and books you find around the house—not so much with all the stuff that you only occasionally touch and don't have a real home for. To cut down on these hard-to-get-rid-of clutter culprits, the Zen Habits blog suggests creating a "Maybe" box, stashing non-dire items in there, and ...Then store the box somewhere hidden, out of the way. Put a note on your calendar six months from now to look in the box. Then pull it out, six months later, and see if it's anything you really needed. Usually, you can just dump the whole box, because you never needed that stuff.I can vouch for the power of hidden non-necessities. An uncanny Google Analytics glitch drives users mad and at the time this article was written, no Google official came out to explain what happened. Here's the problem in a few words: webmasters who logged into their Google Analytics in the last few days spotted a shocking report: 0 (zero) direct visitors, which, for most of them, is impossible. Moreover, other users recorded huge direct traffic losses, somewhere near 80 percent, which obviously means thousands of visitors.

Today's social networks have an amazing influence over their users, the number of the registered members being absolutely huge, somewhere near millions. The most recent proof is a water fight set up by a Facebook user who managed to gather no less than 350 other members in the United Kingdom.
