A reader at the Unclutterer blog suggests that since stores only really need the number off the cards they issue, she's put all her account numbers in her cell phone contacts list to lighten her wallet:Basically, I have every membership number saved in my phone, organized to be alphabetized together such as 'aMemb-Barnes&Noble, aMemb-Southwest, aMemb-Avis, etc' so they are easy to find. It has uncluttered my wallet/purse and made is substantially easier to find the number when I need it.As one Unclutterer commenter suggests, it might be more convenient to line up the numbers behind something like xMemb-Borders, but the concept is sound—assuming you're not storing any cards you can buy or pull cash with. What other items have you craftily cut out of your wallet? Share your streamlining suggestions in the comments.

Language translation service Google Translate has added the ability to automatically detect the source language, streamlining translations when you don't recognize the language. When you stumble onto a foreign language web site, the most difficult part of using sites like Google Translate is that you often don't know what the source language is. Google Translate's new Detect Language feature removes this limitation altogether, so translations are quicker and easier. Apart from the new auto-detection, Google Translate has also added support for nine new languages, and can translate from any one of them to any other. Not bad.

Now that you've been running Firefox 3 for almost a week, it's time customize its interface to your liking with a few great user styles. We've shown you how to make a couple of different compact keychains, but DIY web site Instructables is back with the ultimate fulfillment of the streamlined keychain and multi-tool: the Swiss Army Keys. Despite the name its creator has given it, the mod requires the previously mentioned Leatherman Micra, up to six keys, and something to cut and drill your keys with. The result, as you can see in the photo, is a fully working Leatherman with a few tools swapped out for keys. Very handy, and with the pocket-knife-small Leatherman Micra, it'll easily fit anywhere. read more »

All platforms with Firefox: Just posted an update to the Better Gmail 2 Firefox extension which upgrades the gorgeous Redesigned skin to its latest version and the Filter Assistant. The add-on's now meaner and leaner, with a whole new streamlined code base, and no more scripts you don't need slowing down your Gmail. (For example, the HTML Signatures script—which has grown up into its very own extension, is no longer in Better Gmail, as is the Force Encrypted Connection script which Google's built into Gmail native read more »
