Web-based album art library and search engine AllCDCovers just may have the missing art you've been looking to fill in your digital music collection. Despite its name, AllCDCovers carries both album art, DVD covers, and game covers, front and back, with pretty high res versions available for free download. AllCDCovers didn't have the indie artist I tried, so the really obscure stuff might not be here; still, when the iTunes Store fails you it may be a good stop. Windows only (for the moment): Microsoft has thrown open the doors to a "tech preview" of its Live Mesh service, a kind of web-boosted version of Lifehacker favorite folder-syncing tool FolderShare, with a bit of remote desktop connection thrown in. Signing up with a Windows Live ID gets you 5 GB of space to store folders you want to keep in sync, either from computer to computer, or with the Live Mesh desktop itself. Google Inc. and Apple Inc. collect and store location information from personal computers, as
well as mobile devices, according to company executives, a disclosure
that sheds new light on the scope of the data collected by tech
companies.
Apple gathers information from some Apple Macintosh computers
connected to Wi-Fi networks, and Google collects data from
Wi-Fi-connected computers that use Google's Chrome browser or search
"toolbar."
