ZURICH — Swiss medical technology group Synthes said Monday it is in
takeover talks with US healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson, after
media reports of a possible deal worth around $20 billion (14 billion
euros).

"In response to market speculation, Synthes Inc confirms
that it is engaged in discussions with Johnson & Johnson about a
potential business combination transaction," the medical equipment maker
said in a statement.

It added it could not give further details or any assurances about potential transactions.

Ford wants to expand its Sync technology beyond entertainment and
hands-free cell phone use to enable people with diabetes and other
chronic illnesses to monitor themselves and take preventive action if
needed. "We want to create the car that cares," Gary Strumolo,
Ford manager of vehicle design and infotronics, said during a media
reveal of the technology on Wednesday in Dearborn.

The new quick-release version, dubbed Bayer
Advanced Aspirin, was released over the weekend in 500 Walmart stores
and is rolling out in retail chains nationwide.

The
product uses a new technology that chops aspirin molecules into
particles that are 10 times smaller than the original, allowing it to be
absorbed more quickly.
