The Tombuntu blog points out something many GNOME-based Linux users may not have known—the newest version of Totem (available in the Hardy Heron beta), the default multimedia player, can search and play YouTube videos directly through the video sharing site's API. Simply head to Edit->Plugins->Configure plugins, then check the "YouTube" plugin. Want some of the higher-res goodies web viewers are getting? Flickr, the popular photo sharing service, is now stepping into the video sharing market with video support, a special function supposed to let people insert their own into Flickr photostreams. A few days ago, the Sunnyvale-based company Yahoo made what seems to be Flickr's first step into the video sharing market: the implementation of video support which allows users to upload their own clips on the famous photo sharing website. That's right, Flickr was actually a photo sharing webpage and the video support somehow changes its target. Photo-sharing site Flickr throws its hat into the ring with YouTube and Google Video and becomes a photo and video sharing site today. Flickr Pro members (only) can now upload up to 90-second video clips to the site, and everyone, pro member or not, can view and comment on the clips. The reason for the 90-second limit? The Mountain View-based company Google has rolled out an update for Google Video, its second video sharing technology which allows users to upload and share clips on the web. Google Video now provides a new Grid View that helps you find a certain clip easier than anytime before. From now on, when searching for a clip and viewing the results in grid view, you can move the mouse cursor over a video thumbnail and see more details about it.
