Fatal horse virus has local impact - Oroville Mercury Register

Dawn Alves, a veterinarian with All About Equine in Chico, said her
phones were "ringing off the hook" Tuesday about the highly contagious
Equine Herpes Virus-1.
There have not been any local cases, but some horse owners from
this area attended a recent show in Bakersfield where other horses
became sick. The local horses would still be within the incubation
period for the virus, she said.
"Our recommendation is to keep horses home. Do not take horses out until we see what happens in the next few weeks."
Horse owners are being advised to keep their horses at home until an outbreak of a deadly horse virus is tracked.
