How about a free $8,000 to help buy a new home? The government will be offering a tax refund for buyers worth 10% of the value of the home as part of a general housing package. This is not a loan like the 2008 tax credit. It never has to be repaid. It effectively knocks $8,00 off of the downpayment, making home purchases easier. And, if you don't pay $7,500 in taxes, it creates a refund.
