Nowadays, as soon as the expression “married couple” appears, this applies to legal civil partners as well as married couples. This takes account of civil partners of the same sex. If you don’t leave a last will and testament, then unless your live-in partner comes in this category, they will not become heir to anything. The length of the relationship or number of years co-habiting would not make a difference. read more »
